The 159th Hospices de Beaune wine auction, run by Christie’s Auction House, will take place this Sunday 17 November. And even if Chablis faces loss of Burgundy statusthe Premier Cru La Côte de Léchet, offered by the Jean-Marc Brocard estate, will be the sole and unique Chablis wine to be offered up by the Hospices de Beaune for the fifth year running. The renowned charitable estate now comprises 60 meticulously-selected Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits and Mâcon hectares.

The 2019 vintage in Chablis is one of pure pleasure and impeccable balance,” said Julien Brocard. “This year, night harvesting for certain crus certainly proved its worth in terms of assuring the purity of the wines. Given climate change and hot, sunny years like 2019, we have to adapt and adopt techniques that we haven’t previously used. These efforts paid off, even if quantities are lower than usual. But the incredible energy of these 2019 wines will remain engraved in people’s memories for many long years to come.”

Tasting Notes for the Chablis Premier Cru Côte de Léchet 2019 from the Brocard family
This Chablis Premier Cru Côte de Léchet is made from grapes grown on a particularly steep parcel, in soil scattered with fossil shells from Exogyra Virgula – a kind of prehistoric oyster. It displays itself in many facets with compelling, glimmering hues. Its richness, power and energy are evident straight away. Its density and sturdy, distinct structure will enable it to stand the test of time. But, paradoxically, the immediacy of expression of its yellow fruit aromas and its superb, persistent mineral tension make this a wine that can also be enjoyed in its youthful prime.
