International Success for the campaign "For Ever and Ever, Argonne" of Champagne Henri Giraud

Champagne Henri Giraud

Champagne house Henri Giraud announced that 7,700 oak trees will be planted in December, earlier than expected. Thanks to the tremendous success of the operation “For Ever and Ever, Argonne” launched on October 2, in partnership with the French National Forest Office (ONF), the first young oak trees take root in the heart of the Argonne forest. The strong international enthusiasm and great reviews from Robert Parker, Wine Spectator and Lisa Perrotti -Brown, Chief Editor of the Wine Advocate, about Cuvee Argonne, led to the success of this operation.

Claude Giraud: “Our family was impressed by the success of this operation and would like to thank Japan and the United States of America, two countries which have immediately showed their enthusiasm for this project. Mobilize around this issue a broad public and encourage other Champagne houses to take a direct interest in the Argonne Forest has always been our desire. This leads us today to expand this operation to our entire champagne range and raise awareness among all the lovers of great wines. In June 2014, the launch of Cuvee Argonne’s new vintage will be a further step in this project initiated in 1990 by our house which is still the only one to work exclusively with oak barrels from the Argonne forest..”

On December, in partnership with ONF, over 7 hectares of Argonne forest will be replanted with young oak trees. With a density of 1,000 vines per hectare, this plantation continues the action initiated by Claude Giraud in April 2013 (watch the FILM). It will take 180 years to grow these oak trees that can’t live and reproduce without the human intervention and care.

Historically, the unique mesh of the oak trees from Argonne forest has produced barrels that made the great wines of Champagne. Ravaged by two world wars then abandoned by Champagne houses, this magnificent forest is at risk. Sole and unique Champagne house to continue this strong relationship with the Argonne Forest, Champagne Henri Giraud began in 1990 the fight for its rehabilitation with the first vintage of Cuvee “Fût de Chêne”. This approach fits naturally into a long-term vision of Excellence. In partnership with ONF, pioneer in sustainable development since the fourteenth century, Champagne Henri Giraud now wants to ensure the sustainability of the forest. For ever and ever.
