A Pic & Chapoutier St Péray white to celebrate David Sinapian’s nomination as President of the Grandes Tables du Monde

Guess which wine from the Rhone Valley, homeland of Michelin 3-star chef Anne-Sophie Pic, was chosen to be served on the gala evening for the 60th anniversary of the Grandes Tables du Monde? A Saint Péray, and not just any Saint Péray; it was a 2011 Saint Péray Payrolles white by… Anne-Sophie Pic and Michel Chapoutier. In the stunning Hotel Bristol in Paris, it was right at home alongside 2006 Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage champagne, 2006 Château Batailley and 1998 Gerurztraminer SGN by Léon Beyer.

And to accompany these fine wines, Antoine Pétrus’ careful attention (Restaurant Lasserre) was given over wholly to the highest-quality classic French dishes that graced the menu, thought up by some of the renowned members of the group: scallops with caviar by Guy Martin of Grand Véfour, foie gras slivers by Claude Terrail under Laurent Delarbre at la Tour d’Argent, lobster boudin by Alain Soliveres of Taillevent, head-to-toe farm-raised veal by Christophe Moret of Lasserre, and lastly a creamy chocolate dessert with coffee ice cream by Claire Heitzler pastry chef at Lasserre.

All that was missing was the awaited announcement of the new president: David Sinapian, happy husband of Anne-Sophie Pic, who takes over from Marc Haeberlin. A heavy responsibility awaits him – and all the members of the board* – given the impressive list of restaurants that are members of the Grandes Tables du Monde, with no fewer than 167 restaurants in 24 countries around the world.
