Gusbourne has been presented with the Producer Trophy for “English Wine Producer of the Year” at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) awards dinner held at Guildhall, London.

Gusbourne Estate in Appledore, Kent dates back to 1410. Andrew Weeber planted the first vineyards in 2004 with a clear vision and a single goal to create English sparkling wines that would stand up alongside the very finest offerings from across the globe. Since then the Estate has grown with new vineyards in Kent and West Sussex. The philosophy, to interfere as little as possible with nature’s processes and let the grapes speak for themselves, remains unchanged.

Ben Walgate, CEO of Gusbourne commented, “Our wines are terroir-driven, understated and with a minerality and saline character that sets them apart. For us it is the detail that matters; from the meticulous pressing of our fruit, through the blending process, to post disgorgement ageing. Receiving this trophy is a very proud moment for the Gusbourne team and is yet another highlight in what has been an extraordinary year for us.”

The Estate now has 61 hectares in Kent and 32 hectares in West Sussex that are planted with the classic Champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Gusbourne has, in a relatively short space of time, earned a reputation as a producer of outstanding quality wines, with accolades from some of the industry’s most exacting critics. The IWSC trophy completes a record year at international competitions, with Gusbourne having received seven gold medals in total. In terms of awards 2015 has been the most successful year for the Estate to date. This news follows shortly after the recent announcement of an excellent grape harvest at Gusbourne.
