The intensity of Chouilly and Vertus. The rich character of Chardonnays in 2002. The complexity and refinement of the ageing in oak casks. Official Partner of the Bocuse d’Or Winners Academy, Champagne Mandois announced today the launch of the 2002 vintage of cuvee Victor, part of the “Unique Collection” at Mandois. After the success of the 2000 vintage, this 100% Chardonnay is the quintessence of the unique Mandois style since 1735 that was honoured in 2009 with the title of Best Chardonnay of the World. The old vines (over 50 years of age), essentially from Chouilly and Vertus, are selected to compose this symphony. Indeed, the low yields from these old vines provide a structure and a balance, between concentration and finesse, necessary for the elaboration of a great champagne. A part of the harvest is vinified in oak casks as was done by Victor Mandois, more than a century ago, to get a round and also complex wine. Tasting unveils a champagne with an incredible freshness. The ageing in oak casks as well as the eight years spent in the vaulted cellars of the Mandois house, brought complexity and refinement to this Blanc de Blancs. The nose is delicate, the very fine bubbles confer to this cuvee a creamy palate together with a long finish and a beautiful harmony. In this Victor 2002, time will reveal a unique and exceptional quality that only belongs to great terroirs.
