Siccagno 2007 (Occhipinti) – Wine from Sicily

occhipintiWhere does this wine come from? When everyone asks for the same question around a table, this could be annoying for the inviting person…What grape is it? Trouble continues…In fact, we all said it was what we call a “natural” wine. Why? Because it smells oysters, iodin. And not slightly but very strong. The wine has a nice acidity and the “glugability” is very very high. In fact, this acidity which develops after some minutes is very interesting because it makes the wine very easy to drink. And in fact the bottle was empty very rapidly. So to summarize: it does not smell really good, it does not taste Nero D’Avola and the structure of the wine is built around a big acidity. If you say it that way you do not want to drink it. But it drinks very well. For many years Occhipinti made delicious wines in this part of Sicily and more specifically with Frappato grapes. We have to admit this Nero d’Avola is really particular. So let’s say it is an interesting experience.
