The Air New Zealand Wine Awards are always a good opportunity to get an overview of the quality delivered by NZ wineries. Even if we should take into account the new rules which, this year, stipulated that wines from the 2010 vintage onwards had to be 100 per cent sustainably produced in both the vineyard and winery, the outcome confirmed the strong trend over the last few years: Pinot Noir wines show pleasant aromas and structure that make this varietal a big winner in tasting competitions. In fact, fresh, elegant and with a sense of terroir, the best Pinot Noir produced in New Zealand should be considered among the most delicious wines in the world. Their success is guaranteed in the future and can be easily understandable as, paired with food or not, they meet perfectly the new wine consumption trend seen internationally.
