Famiglia Catania (Gulfi) will be attending Vinitaly – Padiglione Sicilia, stand 9A/17B – next week, to announce the long awaited launch of the 2008 Crus. Before this event, Matteo Catania introduces this vintage and gives his appreciation on each of the 4 crus : “An extraordinary vintage in this part of Sicily, structured wines with a great finesse, a surprising maturity of fruit and lively acidity that gives a unique drinkability to our four historical crus .”
On Nerobaronj 2008 : “A symbolic cru, the true and original expression of Nero d’Avola from Pachino. Its structure, power and aromatic nature, will surprise you from the very first sip. With less acidity but still with a great drinkability, Nerobaronj also confirmed its “sunny” character in this extraordinary vintage. It’s velvety, strong and intense.”
On Neromaccarj 2008 : “Just look at the intense red color in this glass and you understand this is a generous wine. Meaty and iron notes, these are the identifying characteristics of this cru that make it unique, strong and sometimes “nervous”. The Neromaccarj 2008 is a wine full of energy, which in this particular vintage is enriched with marine freshness and amazing flavors.”
On NeroSanlore 2008 : “The cru shows its particular elegance in this vintage. Certainly the most “feminine” of the four Crus. Floral and iodine notes for a wine made of old vines from Nero d’Avola planted a few meters from the sea. The Nerosanlore 2008 comes with pleasant notes of ripe fruits and still needs time in the bottle before reaching a complete harmony.”
On NeroBufaleffj 2008 : “This cru continues to surprise our family. Year after year, always. Such an unexpected complexity and finesse from a wine produced from a single variety and a single vineyard! The old vines from the Bufaleffj district are planted in a place that is composed of different soils. A rainbow of colors and geology that generate a complexity of flavors and unique olfactory nuances. The NeroBufaleffj 2008 shows an unusual elegance and extraordinary power. Already deep, complex and surprising, but that needs some time in order to reach full maturity.”
