Domaine Louis Moreau just announced they have finished harvesting their vineyards for 2010. Harvest started on Wednesday, Sept. 22nd, with a radiant and warm sun. Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons parcels, with a total of 4 hectares organically farmed for 5 years now were the first ones handpicked. Then, weather changed into some rain and cooler temperature, which complicated the harvest on the 52 hectares remaining to be harvested. Fortunately, the analytic features of the grapes were not affected and the good sanitary state of the crop let the estate forecast a beautiful vintage. “ The main characteristic of this new vintage is due to a capricious blooming. The flowering occurred under a complicated weather which brought shatter and shot berries (millerandage) in the earliest parcels and also the oldest ones. The consequence of this was a lower yield and better concentration of the juices, especially in Grands crus parcels, which will certainly give outstanding results.” has commented Louis Moreau, proprietor of the estate. “ Chablis Grand Cru family monopole “Clos des Hospices” were handpicked on September 27th. Its exceptional characteristics should be relevant in this vintage, revealing all its complexity and power through its grapes that were handpicked at full maturity”
Domaine Louis Moreau was born from the passion of a family settled in Chablis in 1814. As soon as the late 19th century, the love of this family for great wines brought her to purchase plots in Grands Crus and Premiers Crus. Nowadays, proprietor of parcels in 5 of the Grands Crus, including a monopole, the domaine works many plots within the appellations of Petit Chablis, Chablis and Premiers Crus, in full respect of the environment. The most prestigious of its wines is the monopole Chablis Grand Cru Clos des Hospices dans les Clos whose acquisition was made by the Moreau family in 1904. Louis Moreau, who has been heading the domaine since 1994, elaborates wines of unique style, combining minerality, fineness, elegance and purity.
