First indications on harvest in Crozes Hermitage and Saint Joseph with Domaine Gilles Robin

De VenogeGilles Robin Estate owns a 40 years old vineyard on average which has always been treated with a great respect of the nature. Ploughed soils, use of compost and organic fertilizer, 100% manual works, organic manure, always natural and respectful of the environment. Nothing has changed in the traditional methods used by the past generations. Owner of a 15 hectares’ property, the estate perpetuates the family tradition based on a constant research of the maximal complexity of Syrah grapes. Pursuing this goal, the estate uses Syrah grapes on the Crozes Hermitage Appelation and also on a magnificent terroir in Saint Joseph. Moreover, it also owns old vines of Marsanne grapes to get even further into this fabulous adventure in Rhone Valley.
Gilles commented today: “We will start very soon harvesting old vines of Marsanne and Roussane grapes from our three terroirs called Monico, Terres Rouges and Les Pends. These white grapes look beautiful with good degrees and great aromas. Regarding Syrah grapes, we still have time but it already looks beautiful with no damaging on the grapes, thick skins and a low volume per vine. Moreover, our young vines welcomed the rain we had last week together with the wind and then sun again. These vines were late in maturity this year due to a cold and wet springtime. In fact, we will be approximately two weeks late compared to last year. I may start harvesting old vines at the end of next week. But in general, I would define this year as a “windy year” which helped us in many ways and will certainly make delicious wines if these conditions stay on until the end of the harvest.”
