Gusbourne Releases Twenty Eleven Brut Reserve

Gusbourne announced today that the highly anticipated Brut Reserve 2011 has now been released. Consistent with the Estate’s unique policy to bottle age wines for as long as required to reach full potential, the Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2011 has benefited from extensive bottle ageing. The first of the wine was disgorged in June this year and has therefore spent a minimum of six months on the cork.

We are focused on creating wines that reflect the best possible expression of our craft which is why the timing of the release of our wines is dictated by the winemaking team alone,” commented CEO Ben Walgate.

2011 was a low yielding year for the Estate with smaller than normal bunches. A warm summer led to an early harvest where grapes were picked with optimum acidity and with a high level of phenolic maturity. Charlie Holland, the winemaker at Gusbourne, added, “We are working well beyond thirty six months on lees and six months on the cork to allow the wine to show its full potential. The Twenty Eleven vintage is one we have loved crafting and our Brut Reserve 2011 is truly expressive, showing great development and concentration.”

The vineyards at Gusbourne are planted with predominantly lower yielding Burgundian clones on low-lying coastal escarpments. These factors combine to consistently allow full maturity in the fruit, enabling the estate to produce vintage wines each and every year. This authentic expression of terroir and the personality of each vintage are defining characteristics of Gusbourne wines. The release of Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2011 will follow next year after a further patient wait.
