The Best Wine in the World is a Port ! A 2003 Vintage Nacional from Quinta do Noval according to Luca Gardini, 2010 Best Sommelier in the World (W.S.A).

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Fritz Haag, Chateau Margaux, Mascarello, Clos Rougeard, Conterno, Chave, Leroy, Armand Rousseau, Dom Perignon...What could be the best wine in the world according to a Best Sommelier in the World ? A vintage Port from Quinta do Noval. After 15 years of studies, Luca Gardini, Pierluigi Gorgoni with journalists Andrea Grignaffini and Marco Pozzali have published the «Enciclopedia del vino» (Dalai) in Italy. In addition to some information about history, viticulture, winemaking, grape varieties but also wine tasting, this book includes an interesting new classification of the 3,000 Best Wines & Top 100 producers.

Vintage Nacional is produced is tiny quantities, only 200 to 250 cases each year of declaration. It represents only a small percentage of Quinta do Noval Vintage production (1,200 to 5,000 cases per year of declaration), itself about 10% of Quinta do Noval production in Vintage declaration years. The magic of a Vintage Nacional comes from grapes from ungrafted vines, in a small area at the heart of the Noval Vineyard untouched by Phylloxera. Rare, made only in great vintages, this 2003 port is "a caress on the palate" according to Luca Gardini.
