Famille Hugel, the Film: Thirteen Generations of Family Tradition

HUGELfamilleVITABELLA

On the occasion of the launch of Schoelhammer, Famille Hugel looks back on its 375-year history in Riquewihr and on the origins of its new dry Grand Riesling d’Alsace through a film showcasing the three generations currently working the family estate.

From the story of how they chose the two colours (the famous red and yellow) of the labels of the Famille Hugel wines related by André Hugel – aged 86 – to the vision of Marc-André and Jean-Frédéric who represent the thirteenth generation, this film retraces the saga of a unique winegrowing estate, recognised around the world as the jewel in Alsace’s crown. A film full of authenticity, just like the family, rooted in the Riquewihr terroir, always looking in the same direction.

Etienne Hugel, the twelfth generation and Export Director: “ Working as a family when that family is united, when that family is pulling in the same direction, as is the case with us, is an absolute joy […] It is the Holy Grail of all lovers of life and it is the wine that binds us together. The ties are cultural and social; it is our entire life that is expressed in our wines and we are very proud to be able to share this extraordinary family experience through our wines ”, he said.

This film also explores the origin of Schoelhammer – the dry Grand Riesling d’Alsace – a unique expression of an exceptional terroir which, like all the Famille Hugel wines, benefits from the family’s ancestral skills and particular signature: finesse, elegance, minerality and the attention paid to the creation of a perfect gastronomic pairing. Discover, or rediscover, this great Alsatian family, a member of the Primum Familiae Vini – an association which brings together some of the most prestigious and respected wine families in the world to promote the values of tradition and excellence (Marchesi Antinori, Château Mouton Rothschild, Joseph Drouhin, Egon Müller Scharzhof, Famille Hugel, Champagne Pol Roger, Famille Perrin, Tenuta San Guido, Torres and Vega-Sicilia) – in the film Famille Hugel, Thirteen Generations of Family Tradition.
