Chapoutier Australia : Tournon Shays Flat 2011 voted "Best Wine" in Victoria Competition

Chapoutier

Chapoutier Australia’s Tournon Shays Flat 2011 Shiraz has won the titles of Best Shiraz of Victoria region, Best red wine and Best wine of the competition at the Victoria contest. 350 wines were presented at this competition.

Michel Chapoutier: “Australia is experiencing a turning point in the history of its wines. A better understanding of the expression of its terroirs opens new horizons and offer new opportunities. These awards show that, with a great respect for the terroirs, it is possible here to make tensed and very elegant wines.”

Always in search for the best terroirs, Maison M.Chapoutier is present in Australia since 1997 in association with the major local winemaking families of Jasper Hill and Giaconda, with a joint venture with its American importer Terlato, and since 2009 with its Australian Pyrenees fully owned property named Tournon.

Located North West of Melbourne, the Pyrenees range of mountains offers a remarkable diversity of microclimates and soils, perfectly suited to the Syrah grape variety. The cool climate associated to this unique terroir makes it an ideal place to develop Michel Chapoutier’s biodynamic winegrowing philosophy, as practiced in the Rhone Valley. Just like with his Hermitage wines, the challenge is to reveal the unique personality of terroir through a distinguished Syrah.
